Book: 1984

Hello!
Today i'm gonna talk about the first book that caught my atention: 1984. I red this book for school when i was 14 years old. This book is a fiction book, that also is a metaphore about the totalitarist societies. It critics this kind of societies. It's important to know that the book was writen in the middle of the XX century, when the comunist capitalist fight was very alive.
The writter is George Orwell. In his youth, he inscribed at the Comunist party, and some years after he left disapointed. He was disapointed about the Soviet Union experience, that with stalin felt in the totalitarism.

My favorite book genre is not novels... i like to read poems. I'm a fan of Vicente Hudobro, Pablo de Rohka, Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud, and my favorite, Rodrigo Lira. I read a lot, but the most i read is for the university. Now, i'm on vacations so i'm gonna read a lot, about whatever i want. I also read about history and philosophy.

I have never wrote a book... And it's not in my plans. I like a lot to write poems and short historys though. But those are for me or for my friends... not for selling or anything like that.

I think reading is really important. It opens the doors of your mind to other ways of thinking, and it lets you learn a lot. In one on another way, it lets you grow up in a spiritual and intellectual way.

Have a nice weekend!!

How green am i

Today, people doesn't care too much about enviromentally friendly practices. The priority is usually making money, or look for your individual benefits. Caring about others (including the enviroment) isn't a priority in our society. So, in my opinion, there aren't so much places where people do learn about eviromentally friendly practices. Some things are taught at school, or sometimes parents suggest children to be more enviromentally caring, but i insist i think they are not a priority among al the things that are taught. Our society is focused on the personal benefit.

In my case, i try to use recycling cans that are placed at the university. Also, some years ago i promised myself that i would not throw garbage at streets again. I refuse to use cars, and i try not to use the public transport too much. I'm used to ride my bike everywhere i go. Also, i'm a vegetarian. The meat industry is one of the most contaminating associations arround the world. Along with that, they cause a terrible damage to the soils. Anyway, i' haven't joined any eco-organisations, because i focus my work at other problems of society that are more transversal. For example, the problem for me isn't that "we don't care about enviroment"... The problem is "we don't care about each other as a comunity". If we did, we would care about enviroment also because we would want that everyone lives in a clean and healthy world. One problem includes the other.

About carbon footprints, for example, i'm not very much informated. I know the meat industry also contributes a lot into contamining this way, so i try to help not buying meat (and not eating it).

In particular, Santiago of Chile, in my opinión, is a good example of the things i said at the start of this posting. The goberment stimulates a very capitalist and individualist way of living. They talk a lot about the "emprendedor" (an idea very similar to the united states's "Self made man"): a guy who should build is himself his own future, doesn't caring about others.

Have a good weekend.

Alternative Rock

Today i'm gonna write about one of my favorite kinds of music: the Alternative Rock. First i must say that i'm a melomaniac, so i love lots of other musical styles, such as Jazz, Latinamerican folklore and Classical music; but at this post i'm only going to dedicate to Alternative Rock.

When i was like 12 years old i started getting into music by listening to Heavy Metal songs. But after some years i started getting bored of it, so i started looking for other musical styles. Anyway, i was still a rocker teenager so, i wouldn't start listening to music somehow distant to rock music. That's how i came up with groups such as Incubus, King Crimson, Rage Against the Machine, Portishead, Tool, and Radiohead. They all showed me a whole new horizon of posibilities in music! One could say that the groups i've mentioned are very diferent between each other, and it's true. But they have something in common: the experimentation with new sounds. Tool is often tagged as "metal", and portishead as "trip-hop", but they also are grouped under the "Alternative rock" tag, and that's because they are very atipical in their musical styles: they have been always developing a search for their own sound, a unique one.
The alternative rock genre is often asociated to the 1980 and 1990 decade. It is caracterized by the use of some of the rock patterns and instruments (but not always), and the constant experimentation.
One of the groups that striked me the most is Radiohead. Until today i feel great admiration to their music.

The Giraffe

Today i'm going to write about an animal that have coaught my atention some years ago: the Giraffe. This animal is caracterized for having a very very long neck and long legs, and it's mostly founded in Africa. It stands 5 or 6 meters tall. One curious thing about them is that they use their long neck as a combat weapon, ¡and they are very agressive to use them! seing a fight between giraffes is a very shocking thing. I had the oportunity to see one giraffe fight at Animal Planet on TV.
But the thing that cought my atention the most, is that they can't emite sounds from their mouth. I found this out after seing a painting by Salvador Dalí named "Jirafa Ardiendo" (burning giraffe). The reflexion that we made with some friends is that, when if a giraffe started burning out, ¡it won't be able to emite suffering shouts!, it is a very striking image to imaginate. After seing this painting i came intrested about this animal.
Only once i've seen a giraffe in real life, in the zoo. It wasn't too long or impactant... and i was a little kid when it happened. I hadn't seen the painting nor made the reflexion.
